People had been waiting in line since 1:00 AM. The lines started at The Mall of America's east entrance and stretched around the corners on the north and south sides of the building. The Doors were supposed to open at 5:00 AM, as usual for these types of things there were delays and the doors finally opened at about 5:30 and the masses of people all vied for a position to see the show. All of this activity was to see Mariah Carey appear live on the Today Show on Wednesday December 11, 2002. The advertised show time was from 6:00 to 10:00 AM. She did a live simulcast interview that was seen by about 30% of the crowd as it was outside the main courtyard. About 8:40 AM she did the first of two live performance segments to promote her new CD Charmbracelet. The second segment was at about 9:20 AM. Next on her agenda was a shopping spree won by a KDWB listener and was seen around the mall by many excited fans that were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. The lines for the 4:00 PM autograph singing started at about noon and soon became quite long. The VIP line, which consisted of Sam Goody Replay club customers, lined up from the Sam Goody court to about halfway to Bloomingdales. The line for the non-VIPs started at the Sam Goody courtyard and went to Sears and then about three quarters of the way to Nordstroms. In all it was a very long day for both Mariah and her fans and we all had a great time. Click on any image to see the full size. Warning some images are quite large.
